Refining Your Results

Return to Refining Search Results

Refine Results displays at the top of your search, author, or affiliation results. It provides a categorized overview of your results. From Refine Results, you can limit your search to only include relevant results and, on the Scopus Tab, My List, and Saved List, customize your view of the Refine Results categories.

Refining Results

  1. Click More... in the Refine Results box to expand the list for the category you want to use.
    Note    The first click expands the list of the top three items to 20. The list will double its display each subsequent time More... is clicked as often as necessary until a maximum of 160 items are displayed. When the list is expanded, you may click Less... to contract your list of results.
  2. Select the items you want to limit your results to or want to exclude from your results by clicking the corresponding check box.

  3. Click Limit To button or exclude button.

    For each category, Limit to restricts the results to the items you have selected. Exclude removes the selected items from the results listing.

    Note   When you limit by Subject Area, the Multidisciplinary subject will always be included.
  4. Your search results will be refined. To refine the search further, repeat steps 1 through 3.

Sorting Category Results

You can sort category items using the Sort on: list.

Note    Sorting is only available on the Scopus tab, the My List, Saved List, and the Author Results pages.

Sort options vary by category and search results tab. Only the category items that match the selected sort option will appear in the column list. For example, if you sort on A, only list items that begin with the letter A will be displayed.

Available options include:

Tip   You can mix items from more than one category in a single refining step.
For Example    You can limit your results to Smith, J. and Smith, J.A. in Journal of Virology and years 2002 and 2003.

Adding, Deleting, and Moving Categories

On the Scopus Tab, My List, and Saved List pages, you can add, move, and delete categories. You can also save your changes to My Profile, so the changes display each time you log in.

Any changes you make on the Scopus tab, My List, or Saved List pages are reflected on the other pages. For example, if you delete the Author Name category on the Scopus tab, it will also be deleted on the My List and Saved List pages.

Note  

You must have JavaScript™ enabled in your browser to customize Refine Results categories.

Refine Results categories cannot be added, moved, or deleted on author results pages, the More, Web, Patents, and SelectedSources tabs, or on Cited By or References search results.

Adding Categories

  1. Click Add Categories. The available categories will display in a new menu.

    Note  

    If you already have all available Refine Results categories displaying, the Add Categories link will not appear.

    Categories that are already in your Refine Results box will not display in the Add Categories list.

  2. Select the category you want to add. The new category will be added.

  3. To have the new category display the next time you log in, click Save settings.

    OR

    To return to the default categories, click Restore original settings.

Moving Categories

You can change the order of the Refine Results categories.

  1. Click the category name that you want to move. The gray title bar will turn blue to indicate that the category has been selected.

  2. Drag the category to the new location.

  3. To have the categories display in the same order the next time you log in, click Save settings.

    OR

    To return to the default categories, click Restore original settings.

Deleting Categories

You can remove categories from Refine Results.

Tip   Once you have deleted a category, you can use Add categories or Restore original settings to display the category again.
  1. Click the category name that you want to delete. The gray title bar will turn blue to indicate that the category has been selected.

  2. Click close to delete the category.

  3. To prevent the category from displaying the next time you log in, click Save settings.

    OR

    To return to the default categories, click Restore original settings.
