Selecting Authors

From the Make Author Selection page, you can do the following:

The Make Author Selection page contains the following information:

Viewing Documents

From the Make Author Selection or Affiliated Authors page, you can view documents for specific authors, view author details, submit author feedback, and track citations for specific authors. The Make Author Selection and Affiliated Authors pages use Scopus Author Identifier functionality to find authors.

Note: Scopus Author Identifier matches authors based on information in documents. Some documents do not have sufficient information for the Author Identifier to accurately match them, even when they are written by the same author. In this case, they will appear as single entries in the author results list alongside the larger groups.

To ensure that your selection is complete, check the results list and, if necessary, add any single, unmatched authors to your selection.

  1. Do one of the following:

    1. On the Basic or Author search form, enter your author search criteria, and then click Search. The Make Author Selection page will display.

Note: For a Basic Search, select Authors from the field type list, and then select Show: Authors.

    2. From an Affiliation Details page, click the link next to Authors. The Affiliated Authors page will display.

  2. Select the author(s) you want to search for from the list.

Tip: To see the title of an author's most recently published document on the selection page, click Show Last Title.

  3. To view the documents associated with your selected authors, click show documents.

    A results list will display.

Tip: To view documents for one author, click the number of documents link next to that author.

Changing Your Author Search

From the Make Author Selection page, you can perform another author search. For example, if your search returned a large number of authors, you could:

Note: Scopus will perform a new search based on the search criteria you enter. It will not search within the current results.

To change your search

  1. Enter your author search criteria:

    1. Required: In Author Last Name, enter an author's surname.

    2. Optional: In Initials or First Name, enter an author's first name or initial.

    3. Optional: Select Show exact matches only to create more precise search results. When the box is selected it affects the Author Last Name and Initials or First Name fields as follows:

Author Last Name : Only the exact spelling of the name will be searched and no other variations. i.e. Smith will only find 'Smith' as the last name and not 'Abbott-Smith'.

Initials or First Name : This will search for initials in the exact order they are written. There must be a full-stop or space between each initial.

For example, searching for Author Last Name: smith and Initials or First Name: j.l. with Show Exact Matches selected will find results from authors called 'Smith, J.L.' and NOT 'Smith, L.J.' Therefore 'Smith, J.' will only find Smith authors where 'J' is the first initial (there can be other initials after the first initial, but 'J' must be first).

  2. Optional: In Affiliation, enter affiliation search criteria for your author, such as organization name and location.

Note: If you enter text only in the Affiliation field, affiliations will be returned instead of authors.

  3. Click Edit to select one or more Subject Areas for your search. Selecting Edit will take you back to the Author Search form with your revised search criteria.

Note: If you selected all or did not select any Subject Areas during your original Author Search, Edit will not display.

    1. Edit the Subject Areas for your search.

Tip: To view a list of subjects covered in a Subject Area category, place your mouse over the subject area of interest. A popup will display listing all of the subjects in that category.
