Author and Affiliation Searching

This tutorial shows you how to retrieve and track an author's publications as well as documents written by a specific affiliation.

Let's look at how to create a search with the Author search form.

To display the form, click the Author Search tab.

The Author search form looks for all the variations of an author’s name that are online.

Let’s say you want to review articles written by R.B White.  To create a search, enter the author’s name in the appropriate fields.

You can limit your search so it only retrieve authors whose names are an exact match to the name you have entered.

You can also limit the search by the affiliation associated with the author.

Click the Search button.

The search results include all authors whose last names contain “White” and the initials “R.B.”

The search results are listed in descending order by default.

To display the profiles which are matched to one document, click the link available.

To bring these matches to the top of the results, change the sorting order to Document Count (Ascending).

If you want to change or add to your search, you can use the search form at the top of the page.

There are many features on the results page that can help you find out more about the author.

To see the title of the author’s most recent article, click Show Last Title.

The search results also show you the subject areas and the most recent affiliations associated with an author.

You can quickly go to the author details page from the search results.

The details page includes author name variations, links to other documents written by the author, and links to documents which have cited the author’s work.

To look for other instances or variations of an author’s name, click the Find potential author matches link.

To display the entire author list, click the View full list link.

Click on the number in the Documents column to see a list of published titles.

If the author's documents include books, a books icon also appears in the Documents column.

Select any names you want to group with this author and click the View grouped with author link.

The grouped authors information stays with this author profile until the end of your session.

Or click the Save group link to store this group on your Grouped Authors page.

You can get to the Grouped Authors page from the My Settings page.

If you have comments or suggestions about the author details, you can send them to Scopus.

Click the appropriate links to view documents which have cited the author and the citation overview for the author.

To see author performance information, go to the Author Evaluator page.

The Author Evaluation Tools, such as the h-graph, include the author’s articles published after 1995.

You can set up an Author Citation Alert to be notified when documents written by the author are cited by other documents.

You can also set up an Alert to be notified when the author publishes new documents.

For more information about performing an author or affiliation search and reviewing the author details, see the Scopus online Help.
