Browsing and Analyzing Journals

This tutorial shows you the feature/functions available to browse and analyze the content and performance of specific journals.

To access a complete list of the publication titles and all the sources features available, click the Sources button in the navigation bar.

You can browse all source titles alphabetically or by subject.

Select a journal title to display the Journal details page.

To analyze journals and do comparisons, you can use the Analytics feature. you can access the tool from the Journal Details page or from the Analytics tab.

Let's take a look at the Journal Analyzer tool.

To select a journal title to analyze, enter a search term in the field provided.

You can specify what journal information you want to search.

You can also specify the journal subject area to restrict your search.

To show certain journal metrics (or the ISSN), select a metric option.

Click the Search button to retrieve a list of journal titles.

Select the title of the journal you want to analyze.

Add more titles if you want to compare journals.

You can add up to ten journals.

You can evaluate journals using the journal ranking metrics.

Place your cursor on a data point on the Metrics chart for an explanation of the information displayed.

Similar charts are available on each tab. See the help for additional information on the calculation information provided on each tab.

To print this chart/tab, click the Print button.

This option is available on each chart and the data table.

To look at this information in a table format, click the Table link.

Click a column title to sort the table by that field. You can sort up or down.

Click the About calculations information link to display a description of the different parameters available.

The titles of the journals which appear in the chart are listed in the key below the chart.

Click the Show info link to display the journal publication information.

Click the Hide info link to collapse journal publication information.

Click the X button to remove a journal title from your chart above.

Click the E-mail button to forward the journal analysis results to an associate or to your alternative e-mail address.
